In the main galleries the best of Bucks heritage is showcased: archaeology, social history, natural history, geology, art, costumes and photographs. The museum also houses the famous Lenborough Hoard, one of the largest hoards of Anglo-Saxon silver coins ever found. Special events and exhibitions are held throughout the year.

Aylesbury Market

With a Market Charter dating back to 1239, Aylesbury Market has a long history of serving local people and a reputation for being fair and friendly.

Held on Market Square, in the heart of the town, the market attracts both traditional traders and budding entrepreneurs, so there’s always someone interesting to talk to and unique items to buy.

The historic general market operates every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. From fruit and vegetables, clothing, gifts and more, there is always a diverse range of products on sale.

On Friday a section of the general market is given over to Foodie Friday which includes fresh produce, including fruit, vegetables, fish and baked goods, being sold alongside international street food to take away. It’s a great opportunity to treat yourself to something special for lunch or sharing with friends and family.

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre

Located on the outskirts of the village of Quainton, situated halfway between Bicester and Aylesbury, enjoy the extensive 25-acre site amid beautiful countryside, with its stunning, glass-roofed Visitor Centre taking centre stage. There’s also the large museum full of railway artefacts. Have fun sorting the mail at the Travelling Post Office. Visit the nostalgic Victorian station building, admire the view from the top of the footbridges and peek in at the Restoration Sheds. Oh, and go for a steam train ride.
